OLD-TIMERS

Staříci

THURSDAY 19 March @ 6:30 pm

The dramedy Old-Timers - a story of two old grumpy men, is loosely based on the real-life events surrounding two pensioners, former political prisoners with one last task of their lives ahead of them - to find and kill the communist prosecutor who sent them to prison in the 1950s.

The Sydney CSFF guest and film director Martin Dušek will personally introduce this unusual road movie. Following the screening, you will have the chance to speak to him directly about this excellent feature and find out what compelled him to turn this real story into a movie.

ECSTASY

Extase

SUNDAY 22 March @ 2 pm

Gustav Machatý's highly controversial film Ecstasy, one of the leading Czechoslovak films of the 1930s, created a big uproar at the time of its release at the 1934 Venice IFF. Innocent by today's standards, it was revolutionary by showing for the first time some nude scenes and woman's first taste of passion causing the film to be banned in many countries.

Among many firsts, the film also launched the international career of

one of the icons of Hollywood's silver screen era - Hedy LAMARR.

After the huge challenge of painstaking digital restoration, this award-winning groundbreaking classic was again premiered after 85 years at the prestigious

2019 Venice IFF.
